West Coast Humpback
Weighing in at a hefty 4.5 lbs (base included — because even art needs to stand on something), this Humpback Whale was born from leftover copper wire salvaged from plumbing students who were busy learning to wrangle water tanks. Someone's apprenticeship became someone else's obsession. Over 30 hours of hand-wrapping later, she clocks in at 15" long and 12" wide. Dedication? Madness? Honestly, the line blurred around hour twelve.
The Angry Rabbit herself was surprised it turned out to be a whale — as one is, because nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition, and apparently nobody expects a life-size copper cetacean either. The whale, for its part, would almost certainly have been more surprised — had it been alive, which, given the circumstances, is probably for the best.
Humpback whales were nearly hunted to extinction for their blubber and baleen. Oil lamps. Corsets. Umbrella ribs. Let that sink in — an entire species pushed to the brink so Victorian women could have a narrower waist and stay dry at garden parties. This one, at least, is immortal.
There is exactly one of these in existence. Not a limited run. Not a small batch. One. Once she's gone, she's gone — much like the Victorian whaling industry, but with considerably less guilt.
